2 Arable—land that can be farmed

3 What does this have to do with Greece? Greece did not have much arable land –No good rivers –Rocky soil –Mountainous

4 Overpopulation—too many people living in one place

5 What does this have to do with Greece? Because Greece doesn’t have much arable land, it has a problem with overpopulation (too many people for the amount of farmland)

6 Colonies—land that a country takes that is far away from its mainland

7 What does this have to do with Greece? Greece makes colonies so some Greeks can live in better farmland and send food back to Greece

8 Barter—trading one good for another instead of using money

9 What does this have to do with Greece? Greece traded a lot and moved away from barter to using the first coins
