Back To School Night 2015-2016 Green Folders: Remove the forms included in the folder. Complete and leave the ones you are able to finish tonight and take the ones with you for which you will need more time to finish. Drop the forms off upstairs with your child’s homeroom teacher.

Journeys: Aligned to the PA Core Standards -Balanced Literacy Program: Shared Reading, Read Aloud, Independent Reading, Guided Reading/Literacy Centers and Writer’s Workshop -Whole Group (Anthology) and Small Group instruction (Leveled Readers & Vocabulary Readers) -Instruction is Differentiated to meet the needs of the student (Enrichment and intervention ) -Integrated Program- Focus is on application of skills and strategies instead of memorization -Spelling/Writing/Grammar- Spelling Dictation Test-Application of skills- not necessarily on Fridays -Writing-- Opinion...Informational...Narrative -Reading Challenge-Encourage your child to read 20 minutes each evening Language Arts Ms. Giordani and Mrs. Warren

- Go Math - Based on the PA Common Core Standards - The curriculum is designed to go Deeply into fewer topics as opposed to Shallowly covering many topics -The new standards also focus on WHY the math works just as much as WHAT is the correct answer. - Fluid program where students are constantly monitored to meet their needs -Two Books: Classwork Book – stays in school Standards Practice Book - homework MATH Mr. Rein

Hands-on curriculum We’ll be studying: Microworlds (biology) Mixtures and Solutions (chemistry) Motion and Design (physical science) Throughout the year we will conduct mini-lessons on Weather Science Mrs. Warren
