Branches of Study and Occupation Physical Geographer Earths features and geographic forces that shape them Human Geographer Analyzes human aspects of culture and how they relate to environment Population Geography The world’s population is expanding rapidly. Most of the world’s population lives in the Northern Hemisphere. Political Geography Size, shape, and location influence political geography. States of the world have a variety of political systems. Urban Geography Urban areas have expanded rapidly and now are home to about one-half of the world’s population. Functions of cities are similar. Land use patterns are unique to a place.

Branches cont… Medical Geography Mapping the distribution of a disease to help find cause Pandemics, worldwide outbreak Epidemics, regional outbreak Economic Geography Resources, available technology, and economic systems shape the economy of a state. Economic activities are based on how goods or services are produced and traded. Regional Geography Studies features of a particular place or region. Environmental Geography Focuses on the earths physical environment and human interaction. Geographer Teaches/consults the subject of geography of all types at all educational levels.
