4 Adding Linear Expressions A linear expression is an algebraic expression in which the variable is raise to the first power. Examples: 5x 3x+2 x-7 To add linear expressions: 1. regroup your terms using the Commutative Properties so that you like terms are grouped together. 2. Simplify your expression by combining your like terms.
