Do Now 1/26 1.Fill out your planner. 2.Take out WC 18 3.Read page 63 in your textbook. 4.Complete WC 18 #1 MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFriday -No school today -WC 18 All (1/28) -CFU for LT G tomorrow -Check your grades -Goggles tomorrow -WC 19 #1-8

When Air Masses Meet… Type of front: Cold Air masses: Cold air mass slides under warm air mass and pushes it up rapidly Speed: Fast Moisture Content: High moisture: Clouds, rain or snow Low Moisture: Only clouds
4
When Air Masses Meet… Type of front: Warm Air masses: Warm air mass rides over a cold air mass – getting pushed up. Speed: Slow Effect: High moisture: Light rain or snow Low Moisture: Scattered clouds
5
When Air Masses Meet… Type of front: Stationary Air masses: Neither air mass has the energy to push the other (temperature is close to the same) Speed: Does not move Effect: Days of clouds and precipitation
6
When Air Masses Meet… Type of front: Occluded Air masses: A cold and a cool air mass meet and push up a warm air mass Speed: N/A Effect: Clouds, rain and snow

Air pressure Air pressure: force per unit area exerted on a surface by the weight of air above that surface.

Weather vs. Climate: what’s the difference?
17
Weather vs. Climate Weather The condition of the atmosphere in a certain place, at a specific moment in time. Can change quickly Includes: – Temperature – Pressure – Wind – Humidity – Precipitation Climate The condition of the atmosphere in a certain place over a long period of time. Changes very slowly over many years. Includes: – Temperature – Pressure – Wind – Humidity – Precipitation

HW: -WC 18 ALL PUSH IN YOUR CHAIR!!! Reminder
19
Do Now 1/27 1.Take out WC 18 and compare answers with your table group. 2.Update your Weekly Planner with any questions NOT finished yet to do for HW tonight.
20
After You Review WC 18… 1.Today you will be a meteorologist. You and your table partner will use a weather simulator to predict interactions between common air masses and ocean currents. 2.Working in elbow pairs a)Left-hand partner pick-up 2 study pages (one for each) b)Right-hand partner pick-up computer

What is on tomorrow’s CFU? Do you know these words enough to use them properly? – Humidity – Air Pressure – Temperature – Wind – Density – Convection current – Air mass – Thermal energy Can you explain these things? – Sea breezes – Land breezes – The Coriolis Effect – How land and water respond to solar energy – The effect of Earth’s surface (land or water) on the temperature of the air above it

-HW: -WC 18 All tomorrow -CFU WC Learning Target G PUSH IN YOUR CHAIR!!! Reminder
24
Do Now 1/28 1.Swap notebooks and grade WC 18 2.Summarize WC 18 with your table group and be ready to report out. 3.Take out a correcting pen.

How can we engineer our home to work with the natural water cycle so that we can sustain human water use well into the future? Weather & Climate: Scientific Principles 54 55 WC 13: The water cycle is the processes by which water circulates between the earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land. WC 14: In the water cycle water changes state due to a change in energy. The processes are called evaporation, transpiration, condensation, and sublimation. WC 15: Water heats slowly and cools slowly. Soil heats fast and cools fast. WC 16: Air takes on the temperature and humidity of the land below it. WC 17: Wind is created by cold, denser air sinking and moving to replace the hot, less dense rising air in the atmosphere creating a convection current. WC 18:

CFU W&C learning target G Clear your desk for the CFU. Spades collect test blinds.
27
CFU W&C Learning Target G When you are done: 1.Put the CFU in the In Box 2.Put your test blind away 3.QUIETLY work on appropriate school work for another class – OR… 4.Study your Learning Map for next week’s Learning Check – OR… 5.Read on your own.
28
HW: Check your grades -Are your grades accurate? -Do you have work to complete? PUSH IN YOUR CHAIR!!! Reminder
29
Do Now1/29 Welcome! 1.Collect WC 19 2.Cut and tape it on page 75 3.Complete first thoughts and learning target: I can use a model to describe the factors that determine climate. 4.Update your table of contents
