Write Now… 1. Think about the events from chapters one through six. 2. For each chapter, determine what you think is the most significant event from that chapter. 3. On your paper, write down the significant event.
2
What are we doing? 1. As a group, you are going to recreate To Kill a Mockingbird as a children’s book. 2. You are going to determine the most important events, a minimum of two events per chapter, to tell the story. 3. You must stay true to the story and in the correct order of the story.
3
Step One… The Events 1. As a group, you now need to discuss what events you want to use for each chapter. 2. Right now, you need to decide a total of twelve events – two events per chapter. 3. Make sure your events are important to the story and will help your reader understand what is taking place. 4. Choose events that are important to the overall story and keep the novel moving. Meaning, if this event was missing, the story would be different.
4
Step Two…The Illustrations 1. Now, with each event, your group needs to decide what illustration will go with the event. 2. Each event has to have an illustration. 3. All illustrations must be colored and as detailed as possible. 4. Pick two members of the group to illustrate the story.
5
Step Three…the captions 1. Your next step is deciding what you are going to write to describe the event. 2. This is “telling” the story. 3. For each illustration, your caption or story needs to be a minimum of five sentences long. 4. Make sure you spell all names correctly. 5. Pick two people in your group to be the “writers” of the story. 6. Make sure these two people have great penmanship.
6
And go! Now, as a group, begin your project. For each page of your book you need: One event (You will have TWO events/pages for each chapter) An illustration that covers the page that goes with the event A caption that goes with the event, minimum of five sentences, that tells the story Group member jobs: Two people to draw and color the illustrations Two people to write the captions-make sure these people have great handwriting!
