Evidence  After not sleeping for 24 hours it is like you have a blood alcohol level of.10.  67% of interns say they worked more than 30 hour shifts.  43% of interns say that they worked more than 80 hours a week.

Causes  More than 16 hours without a break increases mistakes.  When workers work 19.5 fewer hours and get 5.8 more hours of sleep they are way more aware.  When people work the hours that hospitals want them to they make 35.9 percent more serious errors.

Effects  Symptoms of sleep disorders include snoring, loud or noisy breathing, and mouth breathing (brief periods of no breathing)  Also sleeping in odd positions, sitting up or with neck arched backwards in order to open the airway.  Behavior problems, such as irritability, crankiness, frustration, hyperactivity, and difficulty paying attention are also symptoms of sleep deprivation.

Solutions  Sleep deprivation come from four different places, there is health habits, illness or health conditions, psychiatric problems, or sleep disorders.  A doctor will look at your circumstances and daily habits first.  Stress, worry, eating habits, physical fitness, bedtime routines, and substance abuse are also things that cause sleep deprivation.

What I’ve learned about my topic.  I have learned that 25% of people in the world suffer from sleep deprivation.
