Delmar Boulevard bridge replacement over Interstate 170

What is the problem? The Delmar Bridge was built in 1968. More than 40 years of salt use have contributed to the concrete columns and beams starting to crack

What is the problem? This view from the underside of the bridge shows where concrete has chipped off in the median. The bridge needs significant repairs

What is the problem? The Delmar Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 170 needs to be replaced. It is more cost effective to remove and replace the Delmar Bridge than to complete the extensive maintenance the bridge requires

MoDOT’s proposal MoDOT proposes closing the bridge Memorial Day 2011 through Labor Day 2011 Similar to Dougherty Ferry Closure in 2007 Minimizes inconvenience to general public, emergency services and school districts Coordinated with local school districts, University City and Olivette Police Departments and Fire Protection All are supportive of closing the bridge

What will be closed?

What is the detour? Drivers can use Price Road, Olive Boulevard and McKnight Road to detour around the bridge closure

Other options Other option – staging traffic One lane would carry traffic both ways over bridge Significant traffic slowdowns Construction would take significantly longer Telegraph Bridge in South St. Louis County was staged in 2007- 2008. It took 18 months to complete.
