1. Classify the various protozoans. 2. Identify their means of locomotion. 3. Describe how the protozoans move.
3
All of the organisms are unicellular, microscopic called protozoans Protozoans live in a variety of habitats in bottom sediments, along substrate surfaces and within the water column PROTOZOANS are CLASSIFIED in kingdom Protista and phylum protozoa The protozoa are divided into 3 classes based on their means of locomotion: 1. ciliates 2. ameboids 3. flagellates GUESS THE AIM????
4
ACTIVITY SHEET- label diagrams GROUP ACTIVITY: WRITE ON BOARD, draw and classify kingdom, phylum, class and an example Each group answer the key question: HOW DO PROTOZOANS MOVE ABOUT? A. CILIATES B. FLAGELLATES C. AMEBAS groupdrawclassifyMethod of movement ciliates flagellates ameboids
5
CILIATES-beating of CILIA(microscopic hairs) in unison FLAGELLATES-have 2 whiplike tails called FLAGELLA to move AMEBAS-live on surface of substrates and move by means of a cytoplasmic extension(called ameboid movement) into extensions of their cell called PSEUDOPODS(false feet)
6
The protozoans are grouped into 3 different classes, based on their means of locomotion. These are the ciliates, the flagellates and the ameboids. Protozoa include marine and freshwater species.

1.True or false. Correct for full credit This organism is an ameba. 2. Describe the different structures used in movement in the euglena, dinoflagellate and paramecium. 3. Which organism uses pseudopods or cytoplasmic extensions to move and ingest food. A. ameba B. paramecium C. diatom D. Euglena E. Noctiluca
