1. Welcome to Year 3 It is a pleasure to meet you all. I hope your child is enjoying their time in Year 3 so far.

2. The new curriculum Maths 3 tests - Arithmetic and 2 fluency, problem solving and reasoning. Focus on –calculations, understanding of the four operations and how they link together. –Fractions -Measurement

3. New Curriculum Literacy 3 tests – Grammar, Spelling and Comprehension Grammar has increasing focus on grammatical terms/ word classes and punctuation. Comprehension focuses on understanding the text and finding words and phrases. Also a emphasis on making inferences Writing standard has also got harder –Consistently accurate punctuation –Joined neat handwriting –Different sentence openers –Adverbs and adverbials

5. Humanities topics: First Settlers in Britain Holidays in the Mediterranean The Great Stink What makes the Earth angry Greece in the news The Olympics

6. What it means to be a junior! Children are expected to be more responsible: with classwork, homework and with their possessions. Each child is provided with necessary stationery so pencil cases are not necessary. Children are not allowed to go to the toilet in lessons (except before assembly and after 2.15pm)

7. Homework: Homework will be given out every Friday and is due in on Wednesday. Homework is kept in files. Change reading books and library books on Monday/ Tuesday. Children should aim to read aloud with a parent/ older sibling at least 20 minutes each evening. Make sure reading is recorded in record books. Children are allowed to bring in a book from home to have in their desk for any ‘free time’ reading.

8. Homework: (Practice) Mental Math Tests on Fridays – including Times Table. Spellings test on Wednesdays. Literacy - a reading comprehension. Maths- related to what we have been working on in class. Occasionally there may also be a science or humanities homework/ project.

9. Home-time Ensure the teacher/ adult sees you before we dismiss your child. Children need to say goodbye to myself/ Mrs Lyons as they leave so we are aware that they’re going. If you wish to speak to me, please wait until I have dismissed all the children first then we can arrange a meeting.
