1
Macromolecules Organic (carbon) polymers- (repeating units) that make up living things Monomer Polymer
2
Proteins Proteins- polymers from monomers called amino acids for body structure (hair, muscles, nails)
3
Enzymes Enzymes- Proteins that speed up chemical reactions in the body. Put together or breakdown polymers
4
Enzyme Denature An enzyme will denature (lose its shape) under certain conditions (like temp.)
5
Nucleic Acids -Nucleic acids— polymers formed from monomers called nucleotides -Store genetic information (DNA)
6
Carbohydrates - Carbohydrates—polymers formed from sugar monomers -provide energy for the body (starch)
7
Lipids -Lipids- Used for energy storage, insulation, and to keep water out. Ex oils, fats
8
Saturated Fat Saturated fats –fats that are solids at room temperature (over use can clog arteries) Animal fats
9
Unsaturated fats Unsaturated fat- fats that are liquids at room temperature Fish, vegetable oil (omega oils health benefits)
