The Gospel of Luke tells what happened on the night when Jesus was born:
7
When the angels had left them,...the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem, and see what has taken place, When the angels had left them,...the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem, and see what has taken place,
8
which God has made known to us.” (Luke 2:15) In those days, shepherds didn’t count for much. which God has made known to us.” (Luke 2:15) In those days, shepherds didn’t count for much.
9
But God chose shepherds to welcome and honor Jesus. We light the Christ candle to praise Jesus Christ,
10
who comes to all of us, beginning with the least and the last.
11
Living Christ, give us faith to trust you, hope to follow you, love to live for you, wisdom to know you, and joy to adore you. We trust you, we love you, we praise you. Amen Living Christ, give us faith to trust you, hope to follow you, love to live for you, wisdom to know you, and joy to adore you. We trust you, we love you, we praise you. Amen

Act of Praise “Chiquirriquitin” -Conrad Susa Elaine Barber, Harp “Chiquirriquitin” -Conrad Susa Elaine Barber, Harp

Luke 2:1-20 In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
33
All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem,
34
because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.
35
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger,.
36
because there was no place for them in the inn. In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. because there was no place for them in the inn. In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
37
Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid;
38
for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
39
who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”
40
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”
41
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place,
42
which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. When they saw this,
43
they made known what had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
44
But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
45
This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

51
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
52
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
53
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Receiving the Bread and Cup

In the bleak midwinter In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
57
snow had fallen, snow on snow, in the bleak mid-winter, long ago. snow had fallen, snow on snow, in the bleak mid-winter, long ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign. Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign.

O little town of Bethlehem O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie; above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie; above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

"All glory be to God on high, and to the earth be peace; good will henceforth from heaven to earth begin and never cease, begin and never cease!" "All glory be to God on high, and to the earth be peace; good will henceforth from heaven to earth begin and never cease, begin and never cease!"
86
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold!
87
"Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven's all gracious King! The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing.
88
Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled, and still their heavenly music floats o'er all the weary world;
89
above its sad and lowly plains, they bend on hovering wing, and ever o'er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing.
90
O ye, beneath life's crushing load Whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way With painful steps and slow;
91
Look now! for glad and golden hours Come swiftly on the wing; O rest beside the weary road And hear the angels sing.
92
For lo! the days are hastening on, By prophet seen of old, When with the ever-circling years Shall come the time foretold,
93
When peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendor fling And the whole world send back the song Which now the angels sing.

Candle Lighting & Going Forth John’s Gospel says about Jesus Christ that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” As candlelight surrounds us, lit from the one light of Christ, so may we reflect Christ's light and love in the world.
