1
Water lifting technologies for irrigated fodder in Robit kebele
2
PULLEY AND TANK SYSTEM Pulley which costs only 350 ETB + 760 ETB for the tank and the rope costs 10 ETB for 1 meter. This technology has a capability of lifting from any well depth.
3
Its easier to draw water compared to the traditional rope and bucket Less strain on the back
4
150 liter tank with a tap and hose

ROPE AND WASHER PUMP Normal rope and washer: Height of rope and washer: normal height ~ 120cm Cement base plate to be installed Capable of lifting up to 10m depth. With connection piece to connect to a hose Elevated rope and washer: Height of the rope and washer ~ 60 cm Elevated slab to prevent runoff from flowing into the well Capable of lifting up to 10m depth. With connection piece to connect to a hose Total cost price (including VAT, excluding transportation 3775Birr) Total cost price (including VAT, excluding transportation 4175Birr)

Challenges with the lifting technologies Pulley and bucket system No technical issues notes with pulley and bucket system yet, farmers like it Farmers preferring to irrigate chat with the technology other than the intended crop Rope and washer pump The technology hasn’t been successful in the past in the kebele, so farmers are resisting taking it up Slope locations of the well and the field Pumping water rapidly causes overflow at the top of the delivery pipe Both technologies Long distance between the well and the field limiting use of the hose
