Rectangular Prism Cylinder SPI 6.4.5 I CAN determine the surface area of a 3-D figure.
2
The surface area of a three- dimensional figure is the sum of the areas of its surfaces. A net is the pattern made when the surface of a three- dimensional figure is layed out flat showing each face of the figure.
3
top back end front end bottom = Imagine cutting a cardboard box along its edges and laying it out flat. The resulting figure is called a net.
4
Notice that all sides lay out to be triangles. =

Surface Area of Square Pyramid Pyramids that have a square base have a total of five surfaces.
7
Square Pyramid S = area of square + 4 (area of triangular face) The surface area is 161 ft 2.

Surface Area of a Cylinder A cylinder has a total of three surfaces: a top, bottom, and middle. The top and bottom, which are circles, are easy to visualize. The area of a circle is πr 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgwii3Z0MxU

Surface Area of a Cylinder S = area of curved surface + 2 (area of each base) S = h (2r) + 2 (r 2 ) ft
