What is a Graphic Designer? A Graphic Designer is a professional within the Graphic Design and Arts industry. They are Visual communicators who design and develop electronic media.

What is a Graphic Designer? Graphic designers assemble images and motion graphics to create designs. They are responsible for creating design solutions that have a high visual impact.

Work Hours Graphic designers usually work 37 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Extra hours are common, especially to meet critical project deadlines. Work is typically done indoors on a computer.

Education Most graphic design positions require a least a bachelor's degree Art a design courses are taken as well as typography, drawing, computer assisted design, digital media courses, photography and advanced graphic design.

Education (Continued) Portfolios are usually asked to be presented so it is important that they are strong and showcase the designers best work.

Schooling Students may benefit from attending one of the approximately 300 schools approved by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design such as Herzing University, Full Sail University, and ITT Technical Institute.

Salary The median annual wage for graphic designers is $44,150 Lowest: around $26,000 Highest: around $77,000 They are usually Self-employed and depending on their reputation and work, salary can grow with experience.

Pros & Cons Pro: Graphic Designers make good money if they are able to find employment and maintain strong bonds with clients. Con: Graphic Designers have to face strong competition for available positions Employment is only expected to grow 7% from 2012-2022
