2 1. Canadian athletes have poor fundamental volleyball skills. 2. Canadian 16-18 year old athletes are around 100 hours/year short in the LTAD recommended amount of practice time. 3. Canadian youth are coached by volunteers, whereas other top countries use paid professionals 4. Very few athletes are training enough, in a quality environment. Target of 800 (per gender) across Canada for grades 10-12. What is the problem?

3 1. Provide training for 16-18 year olds 2 days a week for 6.5 months (100 hours). This allows us to reach the recommended 4 days a week for 9 months. 2.Use professional ‘development coaches ’ What is the Solution?

4 5 VCCE programs are running – Richmond, Langley, Abbotsford, Victoria and Kelowna. Plans to expand to 9 programs in the Province 10 new coaches (2 missing). Primarily assistant coaches of CIS programs and head coaches of CCAA programs. What is happening in BC?

5 Professional coaches – high standards, yearly professional development and sharing best practices across all Centres. What are the benefits of a VCCE?

7 National Identification Program Physical and Skill Testing Resource Centre What are the benefits of a VCCE?

8 What does the program look like? Grade 10-12 High Performance Stream 24 student-athletes (12 boys, 12 girls or a ratio thereof) 6:00am-8:00am 2 times/week 1:6 ratio or better (6 athletes on one court) 1 hour Strength and Conditioning sessions per week (with certified coach, monitoring progress). 26 week program $1,625.00 program fee

9 What does the program look like? Grade 8-9 Stream 24 student-athletes (12 boys, 12 girls or a ratio thereof) 6:00am-8:00am 1 time/week 1:12 ratio or better (12 athletes on one court) Injury prevention services 26 week program $975.00 program fee
