4. Dependent Clause (also called subordinate clause): Fragment- it does not express a complete thought. It can NOT stand alone as a sentence. Always begins with a subordinate conjunction (refer to your list) If a dependent clause begins a sentence, then place a (, ) after it Dependent clauses can be located anywhere in a sentence If you have a transition word first and then a dependent clause, place a comma to separate.
