3
Abstract Claytronics in an emerging field of engineering reconfigurable nano scale robots(claytronic atoms or catoms)designed to from much larger scale machines or mechanism
4
Introduction Claytronics are described as "An ensemble of material that contains sufficient local computation, actuation, storage, energy, sensing, and communication" which can be programmed to form interesting dynamic shapes and configurations
5
Research terms in claytronics Creating the basic modular building block of claytronics known as the claytronic atom or catom
6
Scientists views on claytronics
7
Wireless power Another technology that will change the way users deal with computers is wireless power. Laptops and cell phones working with wireless power 60-watt bulb
8
Shape shifting Building a moving, sensing, colour-changing replica of each person or thing. The doctor could physically work out of her office, She could talk with you, touch you, look at you, all under the control of the real, if distant.
9
Intel sees future with shape-shifting humanoid robots.
10
Catoms Each of the individual robots comprising these people or shapes would be a "claytronic atom," or catom. The catoms' surfaces would have light-emitting diodes to allow them to change color and photo cells to sense light, allowing the collective robot to see. Each would contain a fairly powerful, Pentium-class computer.
11
Millimeter Scale Catoms The millimeter scale catom consists of a tube and a High voltage CMOS die attached inside the tube. The tubes are fabricated as double-layer planar structures in 2D using standard photolithography. The difference in thermal stress created in the layers during the fabrication processes causes the 2D structures to bend into a 3D tubes upon release from the substrate. The tubes have electrodes for power transfer and actuation on the perimeter.
13
Catoms considering the tiny robots The idea behind self-reconfigurable robots is that a robot could change shape depending on a task. Operating as a snake-like robot to wiggle through tight spaces, while taking the form of a spider or a humanoid for other types of exploration.
14
Catoms: The robotic substrate of the claytronics project
15
Intel views related to claytronics Intel expects catoms to beminiaturized over time. The Intel showcased various technologies in computing, robotics, and communication that as evidence that Ray Kurzweil's concept of "singularity," is pending. Singularity is the point in time when machine intelligence surpasses human intelligence.
16
Catoms
17
catoms can communicate and interact electromagnetically catoms are tiny silicon spheres or tubes, small enough that they could be manipulated by electrostatic or electromagnetic forces
18
Wireless power Mind control Robotics and machine vision photonics
19
Combined modular robotics, systems nanotechnology and computer science to create the dynamic, 3-Dimensional display of electronic information known as claytronics.the wide range of applications of claytronics makes the future entirly dependent on it. conclusion
