4  Texting while driving is about 6 times more likely to result in an accident than driving while intoxicated.  People who text while driving are 23% more likely to be in a car accident.  Unimpaired it takes the average person.54 seconds to brake, legally drunk adds 4 feet to the stopping distance, reading an email adds 36 feet, and sending a text adds 70 feet.
