Elements of art Shape, Form, Space, and Texture

Shape An enclosed space defined by other elements of art. Shape is an area enclosed by line. It is 2 dimensional and can be geometric or organic (free form). Examples: circle, square, triangle, heart, star, etc.

Art with shape as a dominant art element:

F o r m Three dimensional shape inferring or enclosing volume. Examples: cylinder, sphere, cube, cone.

S pace Space is the illusion of depth on the 2-dimensional surface. This is achieved through overlapping, perspective, diminishing size or detail.
