Writing frame Opener – a sentence to hook the reader Beginning – describes what the writer is reviewing or responding to, including background information Middle – series of paragraphs describing positive and negative aspects in detail Ending – the writer summarises their personal response and the reasons for coming to those conclusions

Key ingredients Strong first sentence about the artefact/film/artwork, etc. Background facts Strengths and weaknesses Words and phrases like: at the start, later on, towards the end, at the back, around the edges, etc. Conjunctions to justify opinion: because, when, as, etc. Adjectives to show writer’s opinion: weak, astounding, beautiful, etc.
