1 Corinthians 13: Love Paul discusses love without… –Sentimentality –Sensuality –Sexuality He does not equate it with fondness This love originates w. God –He communicates it to us (Jn.3:16) –He expects it in return (Mt.22:37-39)

Personification (4-7) Suffers long (long-tempered) –Slow to avenge –Restraint, though right to act –Delay response Not parade itself (boast, brag) –Windbag; parades itself –Feigns respect toward superiors; condescension toward inferiors

Irritated; “touchy” – Chip on shoulder – Factions, lawsuits, marital friction, idol’s temple... made anger easy Thinks no evil. Debt in ledger; files; mental notebook

Not rejoice in iniquity – Love is not neutral; takes sides – Grieves over sin Believes all things. Not gullible: – Takes kindest view as long as possible – Errs on side of mercy Hopes all things – Desires best, even when evidence confirms worst – Waits for good results; optimistic
