2 Why Plan? Planning – The process for constructing an organized response to a problem or series of related problems.

3 Planning – The application of rational decision making to the commitment of future resources.

4 Good planning eliminates the risk of failure. True or False?

5 False. Planning does not eliminate risk. Its purpose is to make the most efficient use of resources. The value of planning should not be judged by the accuracy of its predictions but by whether it helps optimize results in a changing environment.

6 Rational Decision Making Requires only that the manager ask four questions and that his/her actions be in agreement with the answers.

12 Activities and Process Objectives Activities – a series of work statements that describe how program resources will be used Process Objectives – milestones to be achieved en route to the achievement of the anticipated outcome
