Regional Gross Nutrient Balances 2000-2005 Hungary RISSAC HCSO
2
Calculating GNB Each of the 7 regions of Hungary According to OECD methodology HCSO agricultural databases (regional data), RISSAC coefficients (country level) No regional coefficients Annual and cumulated balances
3
I. Input 1.Fertilization - inorganic - organic 2. Sewage sludge (3kg/t N, 3 kg/t P 2 O 5 ) 3. NP intake with seeds 4. Nitrogen fixation (leguminous plants, free living organisms) 5. Wet and dry deposition
4
Composition of N input in 2005
5
Composition of P input in 2005
6
I.1. Fertilization Inorganic - enterprises: quantity of active ingredients (NPK) known - private holdings: quantity of active ingredients only in 2002 was known - Quantity of mineral NP per hectare
7
I.1. Fertilization Organic - Data on total amount is collected, without NP content previous years livestock number

I.3. NP intake with seeds = Quantity of agronomical required propagating material X NP content

I.5. Wet and dry deposition measured in 4 locations in Hungary average at country level, no regional coefficients 2000-2002: 18 kg N/ha 2003-2005: 14 kg N/ha

II. Output Ratio of main- and by products; Handling of by-products - 70% of cereal straw is removed from the field - 0% of corn and sunflower stalk is removed Nutrient level of the soil Highest yield in 2001, 2004 and 2005 wheat:1,1 barley: 1,2 maize: 1,1 millet: 1,2 oat: 1,3 sorghum: 1,2 rice: 1,0 soy: 1,5 sunflower: 2,0 rape: 1,4 rye: 1,8 bean: 1,8 pea: 1,8 potato 0,1 sugar beet 0,1 hemp for fibre 3,0 fodder beet 0,1 tobbaco 1,0

IV.Problems Application rate of inorganic NP on different crops - within the advisory scheme - minimal respond No data on bought feedingstuff - surface balance No data on urban compost - negligible

Summary Balances were mostly determined by output Balances alone are not sufficient to evaluate environmental effects of agriculture - soil supply status - groundwater nitrate content Losses during storage of mineral fertilizers, and aging of manure (~10-20%) Manure appliation (only 80% of the total quantity) Losses in the process of wet and dry deposition (~20%) N content of manure can not be utilized by 100% by crops (~50-70%)
