1.Sally is listening to music in her room. Sally is in her room listening to music. 2. Roy is taking a nap on the couch. Roy is on the couch taking a nap. 3. Anita was attending a conference in England last month. Last month, Anita was in England attending a conference. 4. The teacher is correcting papers at her desk. The teacher is at her desk correcting papers. 5. Some of the students were late to class because they were playing soccer at the park. Some of the students were late to class because they were at the park playing soccer.

(in her officer) B : Yes. She’s in her office correcting test papers. 9.A : Where’s your mother, Jimmy ? (in the kitchen) B : She’s in the kitchen washing dishes. 10.A : Ahmed was absent yesterday. Where was he ? (at home) B : He was at home resting from his long trip. 11. A: Was Mr, Rivers out of town last week ? (in New York) B : Yes. He was in New York attending a basketball game.

(time?) (a)They have moved into a new apartment. (b)Have you ever visited Mexico? (c)I have already seen that movie. (d)I have never seen snow. The present perfect expresses the idea that something happened (or never happened) before now, at an specified time in the past. The exact time it happened is not important. If there is a specific mention of time, the simple past is used: I saw that movie last night.

(a)We have had four tests so far this semester. (b)I have written my wife a letter every other day for the last two weeks. (c)I have met many people since I came here in June. (d)I have flown on an airplane many times. The present perfect also expresses the repetition of an activity before now. The exact time of each repetition is not important.

(a)I have been here since seven o’clock. (b)We have been here for two weeks. (c)I have had this same pair of shoes for three years. (d)I have liked cowboy movies ever since I was child. (e)I have known him for many years. The present perfect also, when used with for or since, expresses a situation that began in the past and continues to the present. In the examples, notice the difference between since and for: since + a particular time for + a duration of time

I’ve flown many times. 6.How many people have you met since you came here? I’ve met lots of people. EXERCISE 27-ORAL (BOOK CLOSED): Answer the question in a complete sentence. Example:How many tests have you taken since the beginning of the (semester)? Response:I have taken (three, several, many) tests since the beginning of the (semester). OR: I haven’t taken any tests since the beginning of the (semester).
