2 DSS: New Features/Implementations Only 3 new features wrt Run-I are envisaged to be implemented before the end of LS1: Reduce persistency to kill RPC LV mainframe Rack S2G18 under UPS  All RPC trigger computers were moved from S2G19 to S2G18 during LS1 (S2G18 not under UPS)  Request to be implemented before end of LS1 Persistency to the DSS signal coming from the RPC gas system to kill the RPC HV mainframes  Implemented and tested on 05.March.2015

3 DSS alarms  RPC HV Mainframe : CAEN SY1527 – 2 alarm conditions  DSS alarm is coming from the gas system when the RPC gas distribution to UXC is stopped or a single gas rack is in stop.  If the isobutane level in RPC gas mixture is > 5% an alarm condition from IR2, the second infrared analyzer, is raised with no action.  Signal applied to 2 HV mainframes (RB & RE) in rack S1H07  RPC LV Mainframe : SY1527 (S4F02, S4F03) – 2 alarm conditions  DSS alarm is coming from the power system when after a power cut longer than 10 seconds the UPS goes on Battery.  DSS alarm is coming from the Magnet in case of fast discharge when Magnet current is grater than 10000A.  Signal applied to 2 LV mainframes in S4F02 (RB) and S4F03 (RE)

4 DSS signals to the HV Mainframe 1) Alarm1: AL_CMS_GAS_RPC_System - comes when the gas distribution to the detector is stopped or if any of the gas distribution racks are in state “stop” Alarm Condition1: DI_Gas_SG5_RPC – sends sms to RPC DOC Action1: O_CUT_GAS_RPC_System - sends DSS signal to kill HV Mainframe with persistency N sec. where N is still to be defined within RPC community. Send sms to RPC DOC and gas piquet. Consequence1: O_Syno_Gas_Alarm 2) Alarm2: AL_CMS_GAS_RPC_Infrared - alarm from IR2 (second infrared analyzer, isobutane level > 5%) Alarm Condition2: DI_BINOS_RPC_In_SG5 Action2: No action, only sms to RPC DOC, gas piquet and gas group is being sent immediately Consequence2: O_Syno_Gas_Alarm.

5 Mixer IR1IR2 5% iso-butane USA Distribution HV System DSS no action sms2 sms1, sms3 Notifications: sms1 – EN_ICE gas software to gas piguet, gas group sms2 – CMS DSS to RPC DOC, gas piquiet, sms3 – RPC DCS to RPC DOC sms0

6 Alarm Notifications  sms0: sent by DSS to RPC DOC, gas piquet and gas group notification list when gas distribution to UXC is stopped!  sms1: sent by the gas system software to the gas piquet and gas group notification list when IR1 detects critical isobutane level (greater than 5%) and sends a signal to stop the mixer.  sms2: sent by DSS system to RPC DOC, gas piquet and gas group notification list when IR2 detects critical isobutane level (>5%). No action by DSS. IR2 sends a signal to cut the electric valve of the isobutane bottle. The flow of isobutane to the mixer is stopped.  sms3: shuold be sent by RPC DCS to RPC DOC when the RPC_Gas_Infrastructure node is RED (problem with gas services: mixer, purifier, humidifier, pump). Alarms from the Gas Infrastructure are also propagated to the cDCS alarm panel.  In all cases of gas alarms the RPC DOC should call the gas piquet immediately!

7 DSS signals to the LV Mainframe 1) Alarm1: AL_UPS_Low_Voltage_In_SDX5_Is_On_Battery - comes after a power cut longer than 10 seconds when all the UPS switch to work on batteries.  Alarm Condition1: 2 out of 4 UPS are on Batteries for at least 10 seconds  Action1: O_RPC_Switch_Off_Low_Voltage - sends DSS signal to kill LV SY1527 with delay of 390 sec. Meanwhile RPC DOC should switch OFF via DCS all the low voltages sending “OFF” command to LBB and FEB. 2) Alarm2: AL_MAGNET_Fast_Discharge_With_Current_Upper_10000A comes when a magnet fast discharge with current greater than 10000A take place during magnet ramp down.  Alarm Condition2: DI_MAGNET_FAST_Dump_And_Current_Upper_10000  Action2: O_RPC_Switch_Off_Low_Voltage – sends DSS signal to kill LV SY1527 with delay 0 seconds.

8 DCS  Protection mechanism o Protection related action which sets all HV channels (which are ON) to 7000V and locks the detector in a defined state – STANDBY.  Automation mechanism o Uses a matrix to automatically set defined expert system actions following the machine mode/beam mode.

9 DCS Automation Matrix: Proton Physics/Ion Physics  Extensively tested in the last DCS tests on 06.Feb.2015 and 18.Feb.2015
