High School- HSTE classes, sciences, math etc Post –secondary – after high School 1. 6 mos – 2yr technical schools (Public or private) 2. 4 years- Bachelor Degree 3. 5-6 years – Master’s Degree 4. 6-12 years- PhD Degree NEED TO BE SURE THAT THE SCHOOL YOU CHOOSE IS ACREDITED IN THE FIELD YOU WANT TO ENTER

Certification pass a prescribed course of study and meets standards and qualifications Issued by a Professional Organization or Government Agency Example: certified medical assistant certified dental assistant

LICENSURE Occupations that require licensure vary from state to state Usually require a person to : - Complete an approved educational program - Pass a state board test - Maintain certain standards to obtain & maintain licensure Examples: Physicians, registered nurses, dental hygienists, physical therapists

Required in some careers Done by a regulatory board, state board, or professional organization Administer state tests and keep a list or registry of qualified individuals Examples: Registered Dietician, registered respiratory therapist, registered radiology technician
