The use of the past perfect tense. We use the past perfect to talk about an action which happened before another action in the past

The past perfect tense Look at this sentence. I had eaten my breakfast before I went to school.

How is the past perfect formed? Ali had played football before he went back home. Had+PP.

Look at this example. he made a telephone call. After he had taken his music lesson,

What had Ali done before he went fishing? before he went fishing. Ali had repaired his car,

The key words of this tense are: after Past simple {had+PP}

The key words of this tense are: before By the time {past simple}+ Had+PP

2-Join the sentences. Use the past perfect. 1-Reading out the example sentence. Carol learnt to speak three languages. She went to school. Before she went to school,Carol had learnt to speak three languages. 2-Telling the pupils to work in pairs to finish the task. 3-Going around them helping and checking.

So it is correct to say: After he had finished the meeting,he made a telephone call. Before he made a telephone call,he had finished the meeting.
