DID YOU KNOW ?? THE LOWEST POPULATION OF PENGUINS IS THE ‘GALAPAGOS’ PENGUIN WITH ONLY 6000-15000 Animals in the South Pole : Penguins : Penguins eat in the ocean. They eat fish and squid. Their bodies keep warm by a thick layer of blubber. Some species can dive up to 1000ft. There are 17 different species of penguin and only four breed on Antarctic. The Emperor penguin is the largest and weights up to 30 kilos. Penguins are in danger of being eaten by seals, killer whales and some seabirds.

DID YOU KNOW ?? BLUE WHALES ARE HEAVIER THAN ANY DINOSAUR THAT EVER EXISTED !!!! Whales Whales belong to the group of mammals called Cetaceans. The Blue Whale is the largest animal to have ever lived on earth, up to 100 tons. Whales are very intelligent. Whales are not fish !! They breathe air so must return to the surface of the ocean to get air. Whales are warm bloodied and give birth to baby whales that live with their mother for up to a year.

DID YOU KNOW ?? POLAR BEARS ARE THE LARGEST LAND CARNIVORE AND THE LARGEST OF THE BEAR FAMILY. Animals in the North Pole : Polar Bears: The population of polar bears is 20,000-25,000 so they are are an endangered SPECIES. They enjoy living in open water and coastal land. Their coat varies form pure white to shades of yellow. They have small ears, black eyes and nose. Male polar bears are 400-650kg and females are 300-350kg. They live till they are about 30 years old. They hunt and eat seals, marine animals, reindeer and berries.

DID YOU KNOW?? THE ARCTIC FOX’S FUR CHANGES COLOUR FROM GREYISH BROWN IN THE SUMMER TO PURE WHITE IN THE WINTER. The Arctic Fox The life-span of an Arctic fox is 5-7 years. The Arctic Fox is the main predator in the Arctic feeding on birds, small mammals including seal pups. They weigh about 5-8kg and the average length is 60-65b cms. In the summer the arctic fox may hide food in a den or push it into rock crevices. They will mark their store with a scent so they can find it again under the snow.
