What facts did you discover on your quick read? Considering the lesson essential question, what do you believe will be the important points or questions that will be answered by the text?

8 Effective Vocabulary and Comprehension Strategies  Assist students in making connections with vocabulary by drawing lines or reference points to assist students in making connections. See lines with arrows.  Review vocabulary that can have the same spelling or sound (homonym). See green highlights.  Assist students in decoding multi syllable vocabulary. See yellow highlights.  Assist students in identifying abbreviated text. See  Deconstruct content to allow for comprehension. Give students opportunities to pause and summarize the reading in their own words. See text boxes.  Assist students with vocabulary that has changed from past to present day.
