Foreshadowing Definition - A literary device in which a writer gives an advance hint of what is to come later in the story.

When and Why? When - Hints usually come out in the early stages of a story. - Could be a conversation between characters - Revealing of a conflict - Title -

Why? Why – To help the reader develop expectations and predictions for the outcome of the story. - Predictions drive our perception.

Make a prediction As we read “The Necklace”, make one or two predictions based on foreshadowing events early in the story in your journal.
