Events to Keep in Mind First African slave to come to America(1619). First state to secede (leave the Union): South Carolina (Dec. 20, 1860). American Civil War: April 12, 1861- May 9, 1865. 13 th Amendment – Abolition of Slavery (Dec. 6, 1865). 14 th Amendment – Right of Citizenship (July 9, 1868). 15 th Amendment – Right to Vote for Citizens (Feb. 3, 1870).

Task for the Day In a group of 2-3 students: – Choose an event that “fueled the fire” of slavery. – Summarize the event. – Who did it benefit? Why? explain. – Why did this cause problems to the issue of slavery? Explain. Put answer onto a Google Doc. Share with Mr. Nakata.
