2. Why use the Orid framework? ORID's power comes from exposing and applying the human "inference ladder" of reasoning. That's the conceptual ladder that your reasoning process "climbs," from the time you receive some information to when you make a decision. In other words, it helps us to think through and make better decisions.

O –Objective questions To examine the data To identify factual information R - Reflective questions To encourage pupils to make connections To encourage free flow of ideas and imagination I – Interpretive question To identify patterns and determine their significance or meaning To articulate underlying insights D - Decisional questions To propose next steps To develop an action plan To make decisions To experience “coming together”

4. So far… All pupils have been using the ORID template to reflect upon their reading of a set novel

5. What’s next All pupil will craft ORID questions based on the book that they will be reading next (Aug/Sept) and answer those questions as part of their assignments.

6. An example using Cinderella O –Objective questions - Give three examples of how Cinderella’s stepsisters mistreated her. - What are four things that enabled Cinderella to attend the ball? R - Reflective questions - How do you think Cinderella felt when she was mistreated? - How do you feel about the actions of the stepsisters? I – Interpretive question - Do you think Cinderella should marry the prince? Why? - Do you agree with the ending of the book? Why? D - Decisional questions - If you were Cinderella, what would you do about your stepsisters? - Do you think bullying or mistreatment is acceptable? What would you do if you encountered it?
