1 Wednesday 12-12-12 Holiday Traditions It is almost time for Winter Break, what holiday traditions and celebrations will you be participating in? How do you spend the holidays? **You need your writer’s notebook for brainstorming and pre-writing.

2 Holiday T Shirt December Identity narrative Symbolize Your Holiday Traditions Directions: Create an Identity narrative page about what the holiday season means to you. This page is about your family holiday traditions. – it is a descriptive writing piece. It may include celebrations, traditions, family, traveling, winter weather and activities; whatever you associate with this holiday season. Include a title, a border, a visual and a written section. Title – a creative title. Border – a similar border to your previous pages. Visual – Create one big t-shirt or several small t-shirts using symbols, words and/or phrases that represent your holiday traditions and the content of your descriptive writing. - You must include at least one t-shirt on your portfolio page. Written Section – Write a minimum of 2 paragraphs that describe your traditions and how and why they are important to you and your family. Be so descriptive that it feels as if I am there with you! Write with sensory detail. Include your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and memories about this time of year. Focus on what means the most to you. Be sure to explain all of the symbols used in your t-shirts and what they represent. Your page is worth 30 points and is due _____________________.

Sensory Details include: what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel Questions to get you thinking: Who is present? Are there special items or decorations associated with the tradition? What are you celebrating? What kind of food is on the table? What does it taste like? What do you wear? What does it sound like? When do you celebrate? Why or how did this tradition come to be?
