Plate Boundaries
2
Earth’s Crust Earth’s crust is made up of giant pieces of rock that “float” on top of the mantle. The plates move slowly across Earth’s surface (About 10cm per year). These plates moving are called Plate Tectonics.
3
Plate Boundaries The places where one plate meets another is called a Plate Boundary. There are 3 types of plate boundaries: 1. Converging 2. Diverging 3. Sliding
4
Converging Boundary When two plates move toward one another. Usually one plate moves under another. Which Graham Cracker demo was that? Creates mountains and valleys.
5
Diverging Boundary When two plates move away from one another. Melted rock rises to fill space. Can be called sea-floor spreading. Which Graham Cracker demo was that? Creates valleys and volcanoes.
6
Sliding Boundary When two plates slide past each other Which Graham Cracker demo was that? Can show linear lines from sliding.
