2. I am planning, to create a music magazine on my chosen genre of R&B. R&B standing for ‘rhythm and blues’ is a genre of mainly popular African-American music that originated in the 1940s.

3. The above images, show a range of R&B singers, there body language and clothing which have inspired me and brought my attention towards this genre.

4. When planning and conducting my ideas for my music magazine, I have looked into great depth at music magazines such as Vibe and Billiard. The magazines have helped me to get a good understanding of layouts and ways to draw in potential buyers. I also used the website Pintrest to help me gather ideas on colour schemes, backgrounds and images. Also I plan to use colours which apply to both genders which have a vibrant look but also have a calm feel about them. My questionnaire which I have conducted using Survey monkey will help to finalise my decision. I plan for my magazine to be eye catching and entertaining, containing stories, interviews and freebies to win linking to my chosen genre of R&B. I plan to catch the eye of my chosen audience type of mainstreamers, by including things such as new releases as they like to follow the crowd. Also I'm planning on giving my magazine a modern and edgy look but with classical elements, I plan to do this by using a range of different fonts both serif and sans serif. I intend to use font effects of boldness and italics to emphasis points such as quotes or taglines. I also wish to give my magazine a different look from previously published magazines, as when previously studying a task I came across a magazine cover which had 2 cover models, who were both male, one was of an older generation of R&B music and the other one was a younger generation of R&B. I believe this helps appeal to people of all ages rather then just the younger generation. I have also studied layout ideas and have decided it is best for me design my magazine so the left side third contains the most valuable information as this is the side that the readers see first,due to the way the magazines are displayed in shops. I plan to base my pricing of my magazine around my results I have received from my questionnaire. Therefore I have take into great account ideas, views and things I need to include when finalising my decisions, overall my questionnaire results will me help me greatly.

5. The magazines shown above, have given me inspiration massively and helped me to come up with ideas of my own that I wish to apply myself throughout my music magazine.

6. My magazine will apply to both female and males who’s music interests are R&B. I will take into account my target audience and build my music magazine around my main chosen audience type, and various social groups which I intend to link into the contents of my magazine. I shall include a range of topics which will apply to the majority of Socio economic audience types i.e. budget pages for those of the lowest level of subsistence and the working class, this will contain things such as low cost music equipment. I will also include elements for the middle class and the upper middle class which include more expensive instruments. I shall also include freebies which are aimed at people of a lower class, to give them a chance to experience life like a person of the upper class. Throughout the magazine I will continuously link back to my audience type, my age range and gender. My magazine will be mainly based around the audience type of mainstreamers as mainstreamers make up 40% of the population and don't like to be different. I believe including things such as chart releases will help my audience type to keep up to date with the latest music, therefore they wont be different and left out. Mainstreamers also like reality, therefore I shall include interviews from my chosen celebrity’s as it gives people an insight in the reality of there lives. I will also include elements of Aspirers as when producing pages on instruments it shall include well known and costly brands which appeal to aspirers, an example of this is; Yamaha. Reformers will also be featured in my magazine as when producing my double page spread my interviews will include values and views of celebrities, these being things that reformers like. The majority of my survey results have been produced by people who class themselves as a mainstreamers, therefore the survey will help me greatly when deciding my colour scheme. My magazine will be aimed at a wide age range of people between the ages of 16 and mid 30’s who take a liking to R&B music, I also intend to include articles aimed at my chosen age range. I wish to aim my magazine at all socio economic audience types as it would then widen my audience and more people would purchase my magazine. It enables people of a lower level of substance a chance to feel equal and like the upper class. Even though my magazine is mainly based around mainstreamers, I shall use other usages of audience types as this once again broadens my audience and is therefore beneficial for everyone.

7. The above pictures are images which I have drawn, they give a rough idea on where I would like to place certain objects, fonts and images. It also gives an insight on how I would like my layout and magazine to look and what I am trying to achieve as a whole.

8. Finalising my ideas was very time consuming as I had to take into account numerous elements, and ideas which appealed to me, but overall my Survey monkey questionnaire helped me greatly. I looked at a range of R&B magazine covers, and I immediately saw only one role model was used in virtually everyone. This then gave me the idea to expand on this, meaning when producing my own magazine I would use two cover models, one of these shall be of a younger age then the other. This will then help to bring in both elder and younger readers instead of just applying to the one specific age range. I have also took into consideration my colour choice, my questionnaire provided me with my answer, as 50% of people believed the colour blue caught their eye, The 2 next colours which had the highest percentage where yellow and orange which had 25% each. These colours all together I believe will draw the attention of my chosen audience mainstreamers in greatly. Also there is no gender inequalities, as blue is seen as a masculine colour and orange a more feminine colour, where as yellow is vibrant and catches the eye, therefore the colours appeal to both genders which will help to bring in a varied audience. Also the choice of colours are quite calm, this relates well to the genre of R&B. I have previously reviewed published magazines and decide that I wish for my magazine to have a modern and edgy twist using a different range of fonts but mainly in the style of Sans serif, I would like to include small elements of classiness I.e. by using the style of Serif for cover line story and headings. I will include a range of different shapes known as puffs to draw attention and excitement as I wish to contain details on freebies within them. I have also had to take into consideration the content of the magazine, once again collecting information from my questionnaire it has helped show me that 70% of people wish to see interviews, 70% of people also wish to see charts and new releases and 60% wish to see upcoming events. As I have decided that my magazine will to apply all levels of socio economic I have decided to price my magazine at £1.50, therefore I have taken into account lower levels of subsidence. Finally I decided not to include a sub genre as I believe it would impact the audience type massively, whereas if I applied it to all genres of R&B it would suit everyone who's interested in R&B. I will achieve this outcome by using the programmes shown on slide 9.

9. Throughout creating my music magazine project, I will be using the following programmes to help build and create my R&B project. The programmes I will be using are the following; Microsoft word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Photoshop, In design, Pintrest and Survey monkey. Microsoft word, will help me to check my grammar, vocabulary and punctuation before posting my documents on to my word press blog ready to be assed. Microsoft Power point will help to bring together all my ideas by showing them in the best presented way possible, Power point allows me to upload videos and input web address into my work, this helping the reader to grasp a good understanding on my work and the reason for it. Photoshop plays a large part in the creation of my magazine, it allows me to import images, use a range of different fonts and colours and input shapes helping to show creative elements and ideas which are needed to produce a magazine cover. In design also plays a large role in producing my magazine, the programmes contents will help me to create my contents and my double page spread. Once again it allows me to use a range of different ideas which will help to draw attention to my chosen audience. Pintrest, helps to give me ideas on colour schemes, fonts,themes, backgrounds and images all these being things I need to consider for my own magazine. Finally survey monkey allows me to produce a survey where I can gather information on peoples views on music magazines, this being colours, price ranges, what they would like to see in a music magazine etc. All this information will then help determine my views and ideas,q therefore I can produce a magazine that appeals to my audience and catches there attentions.
