Square Plant Stand

TOOL: Radial Arm Saw NEXT STEP: Surface Planer RESULTS: Rough size pieces for 4 Legs. 33” long PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED 4 DIRECTIONS: Measure rough length 33” on board. Choose Rough Stock. Cut board to length on scrap side of the line. Square One End with radial arm saw. SAFETY TIPS: Make all adjustments or set-ups while the blade is stopped. Do not cross arms while using the saw. Keep hands away from the path. Make all measurements away from the blade. Estimated Time : 2 Minutes

TOOL: Surface Planer NEXT STEP: Jointer RESULTS: Stock is surface planed on both sides measuring 1½” thickness. PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED4 DIRECTIONS: Feed material into surfacer. Measure thickness of legs. Turn wheel one full turn (1/16") per cut. Set surface planer to 1/16 less than original thickness measured. Alternate sides so that both sides are smooth, and repeat until material is at 1½” thick. SAFETY TIPS: Keep hands and fingers away from in feed roller. Do not try to remove too much material at one time. Estimated Time : 3 minutes

TOOL: Jointer NEXT STEP: Table Saw RESULTS: Board will have one smooth, square edge. PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED 4 DIRECTIONS: Select best rough edge. Feed into jointer as many times as needed to be smooth/ Square. SAFETY TIPS: Make sure the material is straight. Keep fingers away from cutter head. Make sure material does not have any metal on the edge (staples, nails, etc…) Make sure the material does not have any loose knots. Use a push stick when necessary. Estimated Time : 2 minutes

TOOL: Table Saw NEXT STEP: Surface Planer RESULTS: Four legs cut to 1-11/16" with X’s on cut sides. PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED 4 DIRECTIONS: Place square edge against the fence. Set blade height 1/8" above material. Run material through table saw using push stick. Set fence to 1-11/16“. Put X on cut sides. SAFETY TIPS: Stand to one side of the saw blade. Use a push stick when making small or narrow cuts. Make sure no one is standing directly behind the saw before you start your cut. Push the material completely past the blade. Estimated Time : 7 Minutes

TOOL: Surface Planer NEXT STEP: Radial Arm Saw RESULTS: Four legs 1 ½” Th x 1 ½” W x 29” L PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED 4 DIRECTIONS: Set surface planer to 1½”. Set surface planer to 1-9/16”. Insert material with remaining X facing up. Insert material with X facing up. SAFETY TIPS: Keep hands and fingers away from in feed roller. Do not try to remove too much material at one time. Estimated Time : 3 Minutes

TOOL: Radial Arm Saw NEXT STEP: Radial Arm Saw RESULTS: Four legs cut to size 1 ½” Th x 1 ½” W x 32” L PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Legs # NEEDED 4 DIRECTIONS: Move board to stop block and cut to length (32”). Set up stop block to 32”. Square one end (approximately 1/8"). Make sure sawdust doesn’t collect at the block! SAFETY TIPS: Make all adjustments or set-ups while the blade is stopped. Do not cross arms while using the saw. Keep hands away from the path. Make all measurements away from the blade. Estimated Time : 4 minutes

TOOL: Radial Arm Saw NEXT STEP: Surface Planer RESULTS: One piece cut to at least 1” Th x 3 ” W x 20.5” L PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Bottom Apron # NEEDED 2 DIRECTIONS: Measure rough length to 20.5”. Select rough stock more than 1” Th x 3 ” W x 20.5” L Cut to 20.5”. Square edge (approximately 1/8"). SAFETY TIPS: Make all adjustments or set-ups while the blade is stopped. Do not cross arms while using the saw. Keep hands away from the path. Make all measurements away from the blade. Estimated Time : 2 minutes

TOOL: Surface Planer NEXT STEP: Jointer RESULTS: Stock is surface planed on both sides measuring 3/4" thickness PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Bottom Apron # NEEDED 2 DIRECTIONS: Feed material into surfacer. Measure thickness of material. Turn wheel one full turn (1/16") per cut. Set surface planer to 1/16 less than thickness measured. Alternate sides so that both sides are smooth, and repeat until material is at 3/4“. SAFETY TIPS: Keep hands and fingers away from in feed roller. Do not try to remove too much material at one time. Estimated Time : 5 minutes

TOOL: Jointer NEXT STEP: Table Saw RESULTS: Board will have one smooth, square edge. PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Bottom Apron # NEEDED 2 DIRECTIONS: Select best rough edge. Feed into jointer as many times as needed to be smooth. SAFETY TIPS: Make sure the material is straight. Keep fingers away from cutter head. Make sure material does not have any metal on the edge (staples, nails, etc…) Make sure the material does not have any loose knots. Use a push stick when necessary. Estimated Time :2 minutes

TOOL: Table Saw NEXT STEP: Jointer RESULTS: Board = ¾” Th x 2” W x 20.5” L PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Bottom Apron # NEEDED 2 DIRECTIONS: Run material through table saw using push stick. Set blade height 1/8" above material. Put X on cut sides. Set fence to 2– 1/16”. SAFETY TIPS: Stand to one side of the saw blade. Use a push stick when making small or narrow cuts. Make sure no one is standing directly behind the saw before you start your cut. Push the material completely past the blade. Estimated Time : 5 Minutes

TOOL: Jointer NEXT STEP: Radial Arm Saw RESULTS: Board with two smooth, square edges ¾” Th x 2” W x 20.5” L PROJECT Square Plant Stand PART Bottom Apron # NEEDED 2 DIRECTIONS: Select side with X on it.
