Homeschooling Definition: Educating children at home rather that in a school; parents typically serve as the teachers. HISTORY Throughout history children have not always been taught in schools. Historically children were taught at home. Between the 1830’s and 1840’s there was a shift in which education went from being taught at home to public schools. This shift changed the face of American education because it put the responsibilities onto the school teachers instead of the parents. EDUCATIONAL ISSUES Although homeschooling has always been and option, within the last 20 years the debate on homeschooling students instead of sending them to a school has had an uproar of controversies.
