Intro Disparity exists between the users of Facebook and Myspace in the form of the perceived userbase Myspace was being used by Latinos and African Americans, while Facebook was being used by Caucasians and Asians

Reasons Myspace was seen as more “ghetto”, while Facebook was used by and marketed towards college students Barrier of entry for Facebook, in the form of validation processes and college/age requirement. Langdon Winner’s Artifact Politics Teens often self-segregate by race, in order to belong to a social group. Usage of one site or the other depends on friends. Moral Panic

Conclusion Facebook became public in 2006, many teens made the swap from Myspace to Facebook. The switch was based on parents wanting to protect their children. Ghetto analogy and “White Flight”

Questions What does Boyd’s interaction with the teenagers tell us about how race is perceived in schools? Has social media today gone through any similar transitions or changes? Are there any other racially separated online communities today? What are they?
