Am I a good candidate for a Hybrid? ● Student needs to be self-motivated. ● Student needs to be self-directed. ● Student needs to be able to self-advocate. ● Student needs to be organized and be able to manage their time. Student needs to be able to communicate with the teacher through email.

About Hybrid Fit For Life ● This course is high rigor and fast paced. ● The same curriculum as the face to face 18 week course, but delivered in 12 weeks. ● Emphasis on life - long fitness.

Student Expectations ● All directions, messages and assignments will be found in MOODLE. (online classroom) ● It is essential that you login to Moodle frequently (recommend every 48 hours) to check for updates and announcements regarding the program. ● In Moodle, you will find the Seminar assignments, and a News forum. Updated information is in this section. ● Pay close attention to ‘grades’ section of the course. ● Check your email on a daily basis. ● Sign up for Remind (text messaging system in place for reminders, etc, etc) * Ms. Smith can track your activity in MOODLE.*

Student Requirements -Seminars ● Students are expected to attend every seminar meeting. All seminar dates are on the google calendar on my teacher page, and in Moodle. Seminars begin the week of February 29, 2016. If you cannot make a seminar, you are required to notify me via email asap.. Seminars due to illness, family emergencies can be made up. Work is not a valid reason to miss. When you notify me of missing due to illness, family emergency, etc, etc, please have a plan on which other seminar you plan on attending.

Seminars continued Students will choose a day and time when they will attend their seminar (class). These seminars usually last 45 minutes. Sign up in Moodle for your class times. Please select from the following days/times/locations: MVHS - room 148 (Health room across from the gym) Monday or Wednesday mornings - 6:15 a.m. Thursday’s after school, 2:15 p.m. IDHS- Room LL30 (health room, down by the Learning Lab) Tuesday or Thursday mornings - 6:15 a.m. Tuesday after school, 2:15 p.m.

Student Requirements ● Students will be expected to work out a minimum of 6 times in 2 weeks. If you are in a spring sport or activity, this will be discussed further at baseline testing. ● First week exception, only one workout is required to be completed by the first seminar. ● Students will complete a Personal Fitness Plan (PFP) every 2 weeks. o The PFP is the plan that will guide you for the two weeks ahead. o What short and long term fitness goals do you have? o What nutrition goals do you have? ● ALL WORKOUTS CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: ● a combination of 3 anaerobic/aerobic workouts and 3 strength training and conditioning workouts.

Student Expectations ● There are two types of assignments; uploaded into Moodle, and hard copies turned in during seminar. ● Read the due dates carefully! Assignments must be uploaded by the deadline in order to receive full credit. o All assignments are timed stamped into MOODLE o If you are having trouble, you MUST notify me prior to the deadline. ● Remember Technology can be tricky...DO NOT wait until the last minute to upload.

Student Requirements ● Students are required to attend the Baseline and Exit fitness tests. o The baseline results will help guide you in your PFP plans for this course. o Baseline tests results are not graded, but more of a formative look at where you can improve. o Exit test results are graded based on the rubric used at both high schools. Check the calendar in Moodle, or on my teacher page for times and dates. *I want you to try your hardest and do your best. *

Unit Quizzes There are 2 different types of unit quizzes. ● A multiple choice unit quiz on Moodle. This is a formative quiz to see what you know from the chapter work. ● There are specific deadlines for these quizzes. Please plan ahead. These quizzes will be completed BEFORE your seminar week. ● A critical thinking quiz will be given during your scheduled seminar time. The information on the quiz will be from your assignments and multiple choice quiz in Moodle.

Course Registration Go to moodle.moundsviewschools.org Find and register for “Spring Hybrid FFL.” Your current password and usernames will be used in Moodle. You must use your moundsviewschools email address. Enrollment Key is ‘commit2bfit’. Enroll beginning February 16.

Grading and Schoolview I will grade PFP’s and Fitness Logs first, then other assignments. Please pay attention to comments in Moodle and/or SchoolView about the scores given. SchoolView will be updated every 48-72 hours. You will know the scores for assignments uploaded into Moodle first. Use the grades section in Moodle to see these scores.

Grading continued To hand in an assignment, download assignment as a microsoft doc or PDF. SAVE it to your Desktop folder, complete your work and SAVE as a doc or PDF with your last name,firstname assignment.doc Example: smithdianechapter3.doc then upload it to Moodle.

Assignment breakdowns Assignments are broken down into two Categories: Performance and Practice. Performance Event =80%: PFP’s 3, 4, 5, fitness logs, summative chapter quizzes, reflection paper, exit testing results, final exam Practice Event = 20%: PFP’s 1, 2, Assignments, Moodle quizzes

Assignments continued There are due dates and deadlines. Due dates refer to the date an assignment is due. However, there is a 7 day grace period, where a student can make up missing work from the previous seminar. Deadline refers to the last possible day a student can turn in work for credit for the previous seminar. Example: seminar one assignments due February 28 by 11:55 p.m. They have one week, until March 6 by 11:55 p.m to turn in missing work from seminar 1.

Parent/Guardian Expectations To help your child be as successful as they can in this program, your involvement is vital. ● Parents/Guardians will be expected to send in a Parent Review on your child's progress every 2 weeks. This will begin the week of March 14. ● Your son/daughter will tell you when to send this email. o Please e-mail me this report. diane.smith@moundsviewschools.org Parent review email - this is a reflection statement summarizing the two weeks of exercise just completed. It should demonstrate a working knowledge of what your son/daughter has done during their workouts, supporting what has been outlined in the fitness logs and knowledge of what they learned in their chapter work. Due the week of each FFL seminar. o You will also verify their workouts with a written signature on the fitness logs. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in your child's fitness ~ a perfect opportunity for you to make this a family affair.

Teacher Expectations ● It is my job to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary for you to become successful at life-long fitness and well-being. ● I will respond within 24 hours to student questions; with weekend exceptions. ● I will check my e-mail at least once on the weekend. ● All personal communication between teacher and student will be complete before 9:30 PM. ● I will update SchoolView every 48-72 hours. ● Computer generated e-mails from MOODLE, may be after the 9:30 time. o Graded assignments, announcements, etc.

Teacher Expectations I will blog about each seminar and key learning that is taking place. Follow or access my blog located at my teacher page at Irondale and Mounds View. I will work very hard to know your son/daughter, and will do everything I can to help them succeed.
