Creating an IETF Standards Track SNMP MIB for IAD VoDSL Service Yu-Jen Hsiao (yjhsiao@andanetworks.com) March 27, 2000
2
Background z VoDSL: Carrying multiple voice lines over a single DSL line will enable incumbent and competitive carriers to provide more revenue- generating voice services in addition to the data services upon their existing local loop infrastructure. y Voice Gateway y IAD y DSLAM z ATM Forum: Voice and Multimedia Over ATM - Loop Emulation Service Using AAL2 (str-vmoa-les-01) z Currently, standard MIBs do not exist for many of the objects that need to be managed as part of the Loop Emulation Service
3
Goals z Gauge interest in creating an IETF standards- track SNMP MIB for IAD VoDSL Services z If interest, the following are list of objectivity: y Defining an overall framework for the management of voice service over DSL Defining the management objects common to all IADs regardless of vendors Identifying any resulting new requirements Defining DSL specific efficient transport mechanisms for management information exchange between IAD and Management Gateway System. Defining a set of managed objects to enable automated flow through provisioning and management of VoDSL IAD.

IAD MIB Components z Configuration MIBs: y IP address y Scripts y software download z Voice Line MIBs: y number of voice lines y voice line features: x analog telephony port x voice line protocol code x voice codecs x transport mechanism: AAL1, AAL2 (PVC, SVC), ds0, VoIp,… etc. y voice line status

Current Status z First draft (draft-jamp-ops-mib-01.txt) has been submitted to IETF as an Internet draft. It can be used as the base for VoDSL IAD MIB. z PairGain, Telmax, Entrata, GVN, Acer/Pivotal currently are working with Anda to participate in the design, implementation and testing of the current IAD MIBs. It can be merged/cooperate with other IETF standard efforts such as GR303 MIBs and Configuration Management MIBs.
