Do you feel like your moving? well, your not, but the earth is!
2
Definitions Orbit – to circle around someone or something. Spin - to do a 360 in place. Tilt – to be slanted.
3
Orbit Planets have 2 ways in which they move. 1) to spin on an axis and do a 360 every 24 hours. 2) to orbit the sun. We travel around the sun in 365.25 days. The extra.25 makes a leap year which falls on February 29 th. Planets closer to the sun orbit the sun faster than farther planets farther from the sun. For example Mercury orbits the sun in 88 earth days and Neptune takes 165 earth years to orbit the sun. All of the planets orbit the sun because the galaxy formed that way.
4
Spin All of the planets spin. The Earth spins at a rate of 1038 miles per hour. When the planets formed, they spun in the same direction, but today Venus spins the opposite direction probably because of a collision with another solar body. The distance around Earths orbit is 584 million miles (940 million kilometers). Earth travels in its orbit at 66.7 thousand miles an hour.
5
Tilt Each planet is tilted. Planets are tilted on an axis which is an imaginary line that cuts through a planet. Earths is almost like a top because it spins on a small stick (axis) that moves around the sun.
