 Taiwan is an Island  Capital: Taipei, where the population is 2.6 million  Population overall as of July 2007 was 22.9 million  Area of Taiwan is 35,967 sq. km. or 13,887 sq. mi.  Languages spoke in Taiwan are Mandarin Chinese (official), Taiwanese, Hakka.  Climate: Maritime subtropical

A Typical School Day in Taiwan  Starts at 8am, Ends at 4pm  Some students continue until 8:30pm  8 periods per day each lasting 50 minutes  Some students even attend classes on Saturdays if they have an exam coming up or if they are in their senior year

Free Time in Taiwan  Most students in Taiwan spend the little free time that they do have focusing on their studies  When they do have free time, they usually go out to dinner or to a pub which stays open until 5am  The nightlife in America is “boring” compared to the nightlife in Taiwan

Integrating Technology in Taiwan  Kim told us that in Taiwan, technology is as important as it is in the United States  They all take a computer course similar to ours where they learned how to use power point and writing tools  Just like SNHU, many Taiwanese people have their resume on the internet, however they are not familiar with Chalk and Wire  Kim also believes that technology will be important to her future job

Who Owns a Computer?  Most students in Taiwan and in America have either a laptop or a desktop  This allows us to make connections even though we live in two different countries  Kim owned a computer at home in Taiwan, and now owns one here at SNHU

Things We Learned! o Kim likes America because the school work load is lighter o “No car, no feet” o Kim’s parents are married and she has two older bothers o Parents choose their child’s future in most cases o Kim’s major of English was chosen in junior high o Her studies were based around learning the language o She wore a uniform to school o Asking questions was done after class o Standing required when teacher enters classroom
