Registration Sheets COLOR Registration Form: Complete and turn in to GHS Counselor today! WHITE Registration Form: Complete today and take home to your parent/guardian to discuss and confirm your choices. Note: If you want to make a change after discussion with your parent/guardian: Make the change online at – student.gusd.net AND Mark the change on your white Registration form, and turn it in to your counselor.

Planning Notes: English English Options: 10 th Grade - English 10 or English 10 Honors 11 th Grade - American Lit or AP English Language 12 th Grade - Expository Reading & Writing - Modern Lit - AP English Literature To go into Honors/AP you need A’s in regular English, A’s/B’s in Advanced English If you are an ELD student, select the next level of ELD Counselors will confirm your English choice before you are placed in the class.

ELD STUDENTS! Your ELD courses earn the following credits: –ELD 3,4,5 COM = Elective Credits –ELD 3 WRITING = English 9 Credit –ELD 4 WRITING = English 10 Credit –ELD 5 WRITING = English 11 Credit

Planning Notes: Math Select your next Math course. Look at your planning sheet to see the progression of math classes. –Plan on taking math all four years in high school –Math will prepare you for college, whether you go to a Community College or a four year University

Planning Notes: Social Studies History Options: 10 th Grade - World History or AP Euro 11 th Grade - US History or AP US History 12 th Grade - Government & Economics - AP Government & Economics - AP Economics & Government If you want to take an AP course, you must have A’s/B’s in this year’s English class. Counselors will confirm you’ve met the requirements to take an AP course before you are placed in the class.

Planning Notes: Science Select your science class –Remember! The requirements for both graduation and college admissions are one year of a Biological Science and one year of a Physical Science. –Your planning sheet has all available science courses listed.

Academic Elective Options Foreign Language –You need 2 years of the same language to meet a-g college requirements Visual and Performing Art –One year required to meet a-g college requirements AND high school graduation requirements! Career prep –1 semester required to meet a high school graduation requirement You must choose an alternate for your elective!

Reminders Choosing Classes Double-check required classes for your grade All students must take 6 classes (only seniors may take 5 if on track with graduation credits; will be confirmed by counselor ) Check GUSD graduation requirements & a-g requirements Choose AP classes wisely You must meet the prerequisites for any advanced course WARNING! It will not be possible to drop to a lower level if the work is too difficult or if you change your mind. Remember: NO CLASS CHANGES NO TEACHER REQUESTS

Summer School June 6 th through July 8 th 2016 REMEDIAL To catch up if behind on requirements & skills If you received an F in a grad requirement class you can make up the class by 1.Attending GHS Summer school for FREE 2.Attending GCC Garfield Campus See your counselor to discuss your options ADVANCEMENT Offered through Glendale Educational Foundation ONLY To get ahead or makeup a D in a college course Write a note to your counselor if you hope to take a Summer School course to advance, but YOU must sign up for the class yourself when forms become available. Details coming soon! Fee Required $570

Reminders: Online Registration Follow instructions on your handout Go to: student.gusd.net Enter your ID number & Q Password) Select yourself for the grade you’re about to enter! For each 1 year class you must enter TWO semesters ie: Algebra 1 = Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B There should be a total of 12 course selections on your final list of classes Don’t forget to enter SUBMIT after selecting all your classes!

To-Do List FOR GRADUATION –Attend summer school, if necessary –Take a Garfield class, if behind on credits FOR FUTURE PLANNING –Research careers and colleges; visit college campuses –Job shadow (follow someone for a day in a career of interest to you) –Consider an internship (work for free to get exposure and experience) –Do community Service; GIVE BACK! (visit glendalehigh.com for info) FOR COLLEGE PLANNING –Take the PSAT in the Fall of Junior Year –Take ACT &/or SAT in Spring of Junior year AND Fall of Senior year (required to go to 4 yr universities) www.actstudent.org www.collegeboard.com –Financial Aid: Complete FAFSA in January of Senior year –Scholarships: Apply for scholarships throughout Senior year
