What is HTML? HyperText – means to take you somewhere else Markup Language – HTML is the language of the Web

Starting Your Web Page 1. Find a simple Text Editor What Web Pages are created with Examples: Notepad, Microsoft Word, Simple Text (for Macs) Help identify and fix problems on Web pages Look at other Web pages

Tags Two kinds of tags Open Close - VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Need the backslash (/) to close your tag or it wont work. Usually appear in pairs Example: HTML web page Tags can be either uppercase or lowercase NOT both

HTML Tag First or Open tag- beginning of document Tells your web browser to read the HTML tags and display the Web Page *ALWAYS START YOUR WEB PAGE WITH BOTH TAGS!!!!!!* Last or Close tag Tells it the Web Page is being displayed

Header Tag Notes or information about the Web Page NOT Displayed ends the heading

Title Tag - Starts your title Puts the title on the Title Bar Placed between the tags - will finish your title

Body Tag Markup information that IS displayed If it isn't between the body, it cant be read All other tags will go between here

Starting Your Web Page Cont. Save the text editor as an.html This allows it to be read on the Web Browser Always Save as.html

Opening Your.html File Start your browser before you can view your Web Page Click file, browse and select your.html file If it doesn’t come up there is a mistake

Opening Cont. Click Browse Select Your.html File Click Open
