Introduction This course is designed to inform the operator of the potential dangers that he/she may experience while performing the duties of a HERO operator.

Things to Remember Patrol means to look for “trouble” Realize the importance of your radio (Key piece of equipment) Always take the “Heads Up” approach when dealing with motorists

Conditions of Alertness White (Zombic) – Daydreaming, Sleep walking Yellow (Awareness) – Alert, Observing Orange (Specific Alert) – A gut feeling something is wrong Red (Confirmation of Orange) – Your intuition was right BlackBlack ( Danger is confirmed fight or flee)

How to Handle an EDP Never underestimate the strength of an EDP Call for Back Up, if needed Stay Alert Try to calm the subject Maintain a safe distance Never crowd an EDP

Transporting Motorists/Pedestrians Prior to transporting Contact the TMC Provide description of motorist (s) Provide beginning & ending mileage Provide license number of vehicle Number of people being transported Destination Call TMC when transport is completed

Summary Your personal Safety is of primary concern to the HERO management and the Department of Transportation. Stay alert and be safe.
