What is Ergonomics? Wojciech Jastrzebowski (1857), a Polish scholar was the first to define and use the concept of "ergonomics". He described it as: "The Science of Work", deriving the word 'ergonomics' from the Greek words ergon, meaning work, and nomos, meaning principle. A more recent definition of ergonomics is: The science concerned with designing safe and comfortable machines for humans.

Ergonomics Ergonomic design is the application of body knowledge to the design of tools, machines and environments for safe effective human use. Besides computer hardware, ergonomics also encompasses air quality, room temperature, work environment cleanliness and office furniture. All of these elements can and often do affect a person's ability to do their job safely, productively and well.
