NSS & UWSS 2016 StARS Briefing 9 February 2016
3
National Student Survey 2016 Launched at UW on 8 February and running until 30 April Open to all students in their final year of study Survey is conducted by Ipsos Mori and is anonymous Takes around 10 minutes to complete Relates to students’ entire time at UW, not just the final year Can be completed at www.thestudentsurvey.comwww.thestudentsurvey.com
4
What does the survey ask? The NSS asks a range of questions about your course: - The teaching on your course - Assessment and feedback - Academic support - Organisation and management - Learning resources - Personal development - Overall satisfaction (with UW and the SU) You are also able to provide comments on your overall experience and to suggest improvements at the University
5
Why should I complete it? The NSS is an opportunity to comment on multiple aspects of your course during your time at University Your views on your course help to shape future students’ experiences All data is distributed, reviewed and reported on throughout the University from course level to the Vice Chancellor and the University Executive Every comment made by students is read, categorised and reported on – this data helps to support decisions about future course directions, facilities and support for students at the University
6
What happens to the data? Data from the NSS is used in a number of ways: - Results are made publicly available via Unistats and form the basis of Key Information Sets which are used to promote undergraduate courses across the UK - Survey results are used to improve the student experience at the University (facilities, learning resources, more student-led initiatives) - Current students have benefited from the feedback from previous students, so this is your opportunity to help those who come after you
7
A ‘thank you’ for completing the survey Students completing the survey online before 18 March 2016 will receive a £5 ‘Campus Credit’: - Print and copy credit - Payment for library fines - Spend in Made, Elgar, City and Pear Tree food outlets - Spend in the SU shop All students who complete online will have the option to enter a prize draw to win 1 of 3 iPad minis UW will also make a £5 donation to the Access to Learning Fund for every survey completed online Information on how to claim is given at the start and end of the online survey
