Endoplasmic Reticulum Finishing proteins and creating lipids since the beginning of life.

The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum  The function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum is to finish making the proteins.  Process: the rough endoplasmic reticulum wraps around the protein creating protection.  This organelle works with ribosomes  Without the rough endoplasmic reticulum producing proteins, the plasma membrane, Golgi apparatus, vesicles, vacuoles, lysosomes, and endosomes would not be able to work and the cell would die. Ribosomes

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum  The smooth endoplasmic reticulum produces lipids, metabolism, and steroid hormones.  The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is found in the cytoplasm.  Another function is to detoxify products, like in the liver.  The smooth endoplasmic reticulum also works with the Golgi apparatus. Lipids Golgi Apparatus

Similarities  The RER and the SER are in both plant and animal cells.  They are both needed by the Golgi apparatus.

The endoplasmic reticulum is important  The endoplasmic reticulum is important because without proteins, everything would die.  The endoplasmic reticulum makes lipids, lipids make the cell wall, which keeps unwanted products out of the cell. Cell Wall
