DEMOCRACY Did you know that one of the British Values allows you to vote? 16 year olds can register to vote and can actually vote from their 18th birthday it is a fundamental part of the democratic process which is a fundamental right for British citizens and some others voting is the way to make sure local authority and government policies address the needs of young people this means that people in Britain vote for those who make the laws and decide how the country is run. If we didn’t have a democracy, just one person might be able to make all the laws and that would not be fair http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/jul/06/british-democracy-decline-report https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentary_system

THE RULE OF LAW The rule of law is one of the longest established common law fundamental principles of the governance of the United Kingdom, dating to the Magna Carta of 1215; the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law rules and laws help keep the balance between our rights and the rights of others we have a police force to ensure the law is followed, which keeps us safe http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4949525/Woolwich-victim-Lee-Rigby- working-at-Tower-of-London-day-he-was-killed.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2061783/Stephen-Lawrence-case-Blood- hair-clothing-fibres-clothes-worn-killers.html https://joshlandy.wordpress.com/2010/10/23/who- murdered-who-just-another-day-at-the-old-bailey/

RESPECT AND TOLERANCE We might not always agree with other people, but we try to show respect for their thoughts and feelings. We can give respect to others and we can expect other people to show us respect in return TOLERANCE OF DIFFERENT FAITHS AND BELIEFS In Britain we accept that other people might have different beliefs to us and they may believe in different religions http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/articl e-3263963/Great-British-Bake-2015-s- Nadiya-Hussain-crowned-winner.html http://affirmyourlife.blogspot.com/2011/08/respect-affirmations.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_London_Mosque http://festivals.iloveindia.com/jewish-festivals.html http://www.visitlondon.com/things- to-do/place/610825-westminster- abbey
